I love the language God chose to use for the original New Testament. Koine Greek (which means “common” or “shared” Greek) was really accessible to the people; it was kind of like “Street Greek” and it consisted of features easily recognizable to speakers of most Greek dialects, which meant accessibility.
But what’s really cool is that this language has several different ways to define different kinds of love. We might say that Koine on love is High Definition, while English on love is Standard Definition because English has only one word for love and that can be applied to hotdogs, cars, puppies, moms, kids, brothers, sisters, wives and husbands… and of course, great wine and football. But I hope you love your mother in a different way than hot dogs! When we look into this Greek we see love in High Def; we get more pixels.
