Okay, it’s not what you think. As we return to the book of Acts, we see the Church playing dodge, first century style: from stones. In one town, Paul was stoned and almost died, but that didn’t stop him from going back to that very same town. He cared more about the eternal destiny of those he was trying to reach than he cared about his own welfare.

Look, people are going to rip you up and cut you off, no matter what. So we may as well take our knocks doing something worthwhile; something of lasting value, something that has eternal significance, and that is simply sharing this Good News, every chance we get, no matter what.

Now sure, we live in a far less hostile context these days. But Jesus still considered unfair words to be a legitimate form of persecution when we share our faith: “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” So here’s my question: Got a little persecution in your life? If not, why not? I say, what the heck, this year, let’s get stoned a little more often.
